That unscrupulous man
In response to my post, "Sari-in-a-twist", Arun Simha writes in to tell me that feminism in India "is centuries old". He cites some examples here. Here's a nice excerpt, by a sixth century Pali poet named Sumangalamata:
Well, not all men are like weavers of sunshades. Bloggers can be quite nice, actually.
A woman well set free! How free I am,
How wonderfully free, from kitchen drudgery.
Free from the harsh grip of hunger,
And from empty cooking pots,
Free too of that unscrupulous man,
The weaver of sunshades.
Well, not all men are like weavers of sunshades. Bloggers can be quite nice, actually.
