Guilty Pleasures 2 -- Aao Na from Kyun Ho Gaya Na

This clip, from the film “Kyun Ho Gaya Na,” has two things to recommend it. One, the song is beautiful, though it does stretch on for wayyy too long. The first minute is lovely, but the faux-Rahman after that isn’t quite happening, and the middle sections drag. The music is by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, by and by.

And then there’s Aishwarya Rai and Viveik Oberoi. The acting through the song (and the ‘picturisation,’ as some would call it) is a riot. Aishwarya is one of the worst actresses in Bollywood’s history, with a badness that (like Shah Rukh Khan’s hamming) can be a pleasure in itself to behold. In this song, her facial expressions are hilarious, as are all her movements -- though those, no doubt, are mandated by a choreographer.

Oberoi is equally goofy, which makes me wonder if bad acting is an infectious disease. The scene where he wiggles his fingers in front of his face is especially cringeworthy. Will he able to watch that scene 20 years later with his kids at his feet? Doubt comes.

I can’t comment on the film itself because I never saw it. In fact, the first I heard this song was through Aditi Paul’s excellent Piano Round rendition of it in the first season of Indian Idol. That girl rocked. Anyway, watch:
