Watching people die

The video of Saddam Hussein's hanging is hardly the first time people have been fascinated by images of death in progress, writes Susan Moeller in the LA Times.

Actually, people are quite as fascinated by watching other people living, doing boring, everyday things. I don't see how this kind of voyeurism is any different.

But why do people like watching other people? That's the mystery, and I'm going to watch them till I figure it out.
