Hell hath no fury like a writer scorned

I enjoy nothing more than a good literary feud. AN Wilson, the British writer, has just been superbly bested in one, as this New York Times article relates.

My my, such fun. Acrostics bring joy. Bevis Hillier, whose review of John Betjeman had been trashed by Wilson a couple of years ago, has admitted to being the perpetrator of the hoax. Undoubtedly, it would have not only have brought Hillier the satisfaction of having outwitted an enemy, but will enhance the sales of his books as well. Merriment comes.
