Singing the school song in Hiroshima

It's just a distant event in history. But then I read this, and it's still heartbreaking.

Maybe it's the time of the day, but the thought strikes me that atomic bombs just make the inevitable immediate. We're all going to die anyway. There's going to be pain anyway. Every moment of happiness is a moment of denial anyway. Maybe that's the one thing humans just can't do: fathom that thing called death and come to terms with it. That's why we invent comic-bookish concepts like God. Run, run, run, but it catches up with you anyway and you're dust and smoke.

Or maybe I just need some beer.
