Social service films

That's the Christian Science Monitor's take on Ekta Kapoor's K serials. It describes "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" as "among a growing number that use their influence as an occasional platform to educate viewers, most of them middle-class women and housewives, about a variety of social causes, from treating diarrhea to the rights of women and the importance of donating to tsunami victims."

Damn. And all these years I haven't watched it because I thought it was merely a primer on how to conduct extra-marital relationships.
