A gift for royalty

The dabbawallas of Mumbai, who form a legendary informal network that delivers lunch in tiffin boxes to almost 200,000 people in the city, have decided to send a wedding present to Prince Charles and his wife-to-be, Camilla Parker Bowles. The prince had struck up an excellent rapport with the Dabbawallas on his last visit to Mumbai, and they appreciated the fact that he had sought them out and spent time with them. PTI reports that they intend to buy the gifts today and courier it across to London.

The president of the Tiffin Box Suppliers' Association, Raghunath Medge, was reported as saying: "We have decided to send the bride Camilla Parker Bowles a Kolhapuri navvari [nine yards] sari and a blouse and a Maharashtrian turban for Prince Charles." It isn't clear who the blouse is for. This is why you sometimes need a comma before an "and" while writing down someone's quote.

These dabbawallas, by the way, are not to be scoffed at. They have lectured at management schools, leveraged their dabbas as an advertising medium, and someday, surely, books will be written about them. Who know, one of those books might even have a foreword by a member of a royal family.
