Embedded beggars

Mid Day's Prashant Rangnekar joins the beggars outside some of Mumbai's places of worship and discoveres some interesting things. I had always been led to believe that begging syndicates in Mumbai, sometimes associated with crime cartels, mark their turf viciously, and a newcomer just can't sit somewhere and start begging. On the basis of this article, that seems to be a mistaken belief. Hmm.
